I bought this album on a whim. Going through my music collection, I realized how much I loved Harmonies for the Haunted; Stellastarr’s previous album. I wanted more of this sound – and I found it on iTunes.
Truthfully, my expectations of the album were somewhat muted. Within seconds of playing Robot (the first track), I knew I had made a gross miscalculation. Stellastarr had not gone quietly into the night – they were alive and well – roaring full steam ahead!
This particular album has much more of a rock sound than its predecessor. The pace has picked up significantly as well. I am in favour of both! The rock sound is a pleasant surprise – but I think I was even more impressed with the overall quality of the album – especially considering it was self-produced. Civilized was released in July 2009 on their own label, Bloated Wife.
Stellastarr call New York home. They began in March 2000 while studying art and design at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.
