This is one album I’ve been excited about for ages. I was introduced to Bayside through absolutepunk.net a few months ago and I’ve never looked back. Ever since my ears got hold of Shudder, (their previous album) they’ve been drooling for Killing Time.
Bayside have somewhat of a cult following in the punk/rock scene. I have come to understand why. They craft catchy rock songs with great melodies and huge choruses, and just enough self-deprecating lyrics to keep me interested. I’m a sucker for dark humour, and Anthony Raneri (lead vocalist), weaves it through the album with ingenious creativity.
All my anticipation was rewarded with Killing Time. It lived up to all my expectations – and then some. Critics are attributing its success to producer Gil Norton, who helped shape the sound of '80s alternative (Pixies, Throwing Muses) and '90s post-hardcore (Jimmy Eat World, Foo Fighters). All I know is that it is a sound album, through and through.
