The Wombats are a band I never intended on liking. It was through my sister that I was forced to listen to A Guide To Love, Loss and Desperation. I considered them too silly. Yet, there was certain catchiness that kept me coming back. It wasn’t long before I begrudgingly called myself a supporter.
With This Modern Glitch, it feels as though The Wombats have grown up. A little. Or, at the very least, become more concise. The tracks all seem to fit into the larger picture of the album. That said, each track is equally as catchy. If anything, there’s a greater dance-ability to this album as the synth features more prominently.
This Modern Glitch has mixed reviews. They’ve been criticized for being complacent or mundane. Yet, others applaud the energy of the electro-pop, and the honesty of the song-writing. If you’re not expecting a world changing album, this is a fantastic piece of work.
